The Philadelphia Orchard Project (PoP) is expanding access to fresh food in the city by helping community members plant orchards and edible plants. The non-profit comes alonside community-based groups and volunteers to get them started. The community groups then own, maintain, and harvest their orchards, which typically are planted in former vacant lots, community gardens, schoolyards, and other spaces where people lack access to fresh fruit.
Talkupy with Annie Lindstrom welcomes Robyn Mello, PoP's education and outreach director, to the show on Tuesday Feb. 3 at 11 a.m. We'll talk about how PoP is helping to ensure food security in Philadelphia and how people are taking up shovels and wheelbarrows across the city to plant gardens everywhere since Robyn was on the show last.
